State Rep. Roger Goodman (D) to Challenge Incumbent Dave Reichert (R) for U.S. Congress

State Representative Roger Goodman(D) has filed with the Federal Election Commission and is challenging incumbent Republican Congressman Dave Reichert for the 8th Congressional District in 2012. Reichert is the U.S. Representative for Washington's 8th congressional district, serving since 2005. Goodman, a resident of Kirkland, currently represents Washington's 45th Legislative District, a position he has held since 2006.

According to the Roger Goodman For Congress website (, Goodman sees the economy, war and taxes as key issues:

It takes a lot of listening and then a lot of civil communication in order to come up with the best possible solutions for the many critical crises we currently face in this country--job losses, home foreclosures, stagnant business climate, bailouts, war and taxes. That is why I'm running for Congress.

The campaign website continues with the following:

I am listening so that I can do my best to negotiate those issues most important to you. Like you, I strongly believe in:

  • fiscal responsibility
  • a strong education system
  • fresh ideas to help create jobs and stabilize the economy
  • protecting the environment to preserve our way of life

My mode of operation is to work both sides of the aisle . . . that's why the majority of the bills I sponsor get passed in the state legislature and why I know I can do the same for you in Washington, DC. As we continue to struggle through challenging and uncertain times, I believe that we need courageous leadership to help enact fundamental reforms that could prevent future fiscal disasters.

The Eighth Congressional District of Washington includes most of the region known as the Eastside and the mostly rural eastern parts of King and Pierce counties.

Goodman is the Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee and serves on the Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Early Learning and Children’s Services Committees. He is also a member of the Law and Justice Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures and serves on the Public Safety Task Force of the Council of State Governments.
