Construction scheduled to be complete before school begins
When school begins in September, Peter Kirk Elementary students will have a new sidewalk to travel to school. Construction begins this week to install more than 1,000 linear feet of curb, gutter, and sidewalk along the north side of 12thAvenue from 6th Street to the back entrance of the school on 110th Avenue NE. The project also includes a planter strip and a boardwalk and pervious concrete sidewalks around the wetland located at the east end of 12th Avenue. Wetland vegetation enhancements are also included in the Project. The sidewalk provides a safe alternative for students to walk to school rather than ride the bus or be driven. The City has awarded Reed Trucking and Excavating (Puyallup, Washington) the contract. Construction hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
