Help keep Kirkland’s waterways clean by volunteering with your family, friends and neighbors to mark storm drains on Saturday, August 6, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Community members, neighborhood, school, faith-based organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Houghton Beach Park, 5811 Lake Washington Boulevard and then divide into groups to mark storm drains with an “Only Rain Down the Drain” message. In case of rain or threatening weather, this event will be canceled. For information about the event or to volunteer, please contact Betsy Adams, Kirkland Public Works, at 425-587-3858 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Storm drain markers help remind the community about pollutants that drain into area water bodies. Whatever drips, spills, pours or is washed or thrown onto streets or sidewalks can wind up in our local creeks, lakes, wetlands, and eventually Puget Sound.
