Mark Sexauer of Kirkland's Milagro Cantina and Hector’s restaurants recently won the Bombay Sapphire/GQ Magazine “Most Inspired Bartender Competition 2011” with The Forager cocktail. Mark will be shaking up The Forager for one night only, Friday, Sept. 9, at Milagro in preparation for competing in the national contest in Las Vegas Sept. 11-12. The Vegas event is one of the biggest bartending competitions in the industry.
The cocktail, which includes cumin seed, carrots and egg white, will sell for $10 from 5 p.m. to close on Sept. 9. Guests can dare to give Mark feedback, order up so he can practice for the competition or simply show support and taste an award-winning cocktail, which Mark will take to compete with in Vegas against 46 other bartenders from around the country.
Mark competed his way to the national competition by winning the state competition on Aug 23 at Hotel 1000. Once in Vegas, the bartenders will make the cocktail that got them there and then the top 10 will compete in an Iron Bartenders Competition with a selection of ingredients that they choose from for their second cocktail. The winner of the national contest will be featured on the front cover of an upcoming GQ issue and fly to London for the international competition.
Visit Mark Sexauer's Cocktail Blog to learn more about our local mixologist. Mark is also working on a cocktail book, which will of course include The Forager.
We wish Mark the best of luck in the competition, and look forward to hearing more about your creative concoctions.
