Currently Kirkland, the news program produced by the City of Kirkland, last week ran a story on volunteer the efforts of Kudos Kirkland to spruce up our city. The news segment explains the origins of the organization, efforts to clean up downtown, City Hall, parks and this week, the Market Street median.
The medians that run the length of Market Street from downtown Kirkland out to Juanita Bay Park were originally installed in the 1960's as a part of Lady Bird Johnson's Highway Beautification campaign when Al Lock was Kirkland City Manager. The medians were filled with material dredged from Moss Bay and then planted with ground cover and trees.
On Thursday, over a dozen Kudos volunteers worked side by side with a crew from Public Works to clean up the Market Street median. The group worked from 7th to 9th on this their third week on the Market Street project.
