Sunset and a picnic at Kirkland's Waverly Beach

On Friday night, we took advantage of this warm September weather and hastily planned a picnic on the beach to watch the sun set over the Olympics. Neither Kate nor I felt much like cooking and Molly the Dog was of little help, so we called on our favorite neighborhood take away spot, Deru Market ( and ordered a chicken pesto pizza, a drink and a cookie -- just the right amount for our family of two and a half.

The food was ready to pick up ten minutes after I placed the order. Within just 15 minutes, we were on the beach, sitting on a bench, dining by the sunset, watching the swimmers, paddle boarders and boaters off shore and the children skipping rocks into the surf.

Life is good.

This was a lovely way to spend the evening in this most beautiful place we call home.
